GUIDELINES FOR WORKING ON FRAGILE ROOF




Working at fragile roof:

          The fragile material doesn’t safe and the support the weight of any load they are carrying.

Fragile material:

Types of the fragile roof:

1.   Fiber roof
2.   Asbestos cement roof
3.   Thatched roof

  • If the roof covered by fragile material use roof ladders, never step on to a fragile roof.
  • Various can be erected around openings and roof lights are alternatively they should be covered.
  • During any extensive work on the roof barriers or guardrails will usually be required to prevent false from the lower edges of the roof.
  • The scaffold should be high enough and strong to step a person who is rolling down on the roof slope.
  • Working on purling, sheeting bolt shall not be permitted.


Work permit system: No permits required:

         No permit is required where the work is carried out with the standard operating procedure through risk assessment like JSA here the risks or ALARP (As low as reasonability practicable).

Supporting documents:

Supporting documents are the document procured to satisfy a safety requirement of a work permit. Ex:

1.   Mechanical loto certificate
2.   Electrical loto
3.   Get the test for LEL, TLV and oxygen deficiency.
4.   Confined space entry certificate.
5.   Clearance for excavation certificate.

Requirements / Responsibility of issue:

1.   PTW is required for hazardous activities like not work confined space entry and deep excavation.

2.   Responsibility for ensuring a PTW is issued lies with the main contractor.

3.   Comply is with all safety regulations as applicable for the different type of works.

 The validity of the permit to work:

  • It is valid only for the body on which it’s issued
  • It can be renewed provided the work is continued by the same group of working and at the same location.
  • Explain hazards involved and precaution to be taken to the workers concerned.
  • Display PTW and safety notices in the area where work is carried out.
  • Cancellation of a permit to work:
  • The work permit can be canceled if the work is being carried out in an unsafe manner
  • The canceled work permit shall not be reopened.
  • New PTW to be obtained to continue the stopped work.


The closing of PTW:

  • PTW shall be closed only after work is completed in our respect.
  • Proper housekeeping shall be maintained during and after completion of work
  • Keep PTW reward at least 6 months.
  • Ensure fire watch for at least one hour after completion of hot work.


Training:

          Workers associated with hazardous works shall be trained before prior to starting the work.

Height passes:

          This procedure is applicable for work at height of 3.50 meters and above from the ground floor unless another safety system.

Equipment and accessories:

1.   Ladders
2.   Safety belt
3.   Safety net
4.   As and other PPE’s.

Procedure:

  • Those who are all work at height shall undergo a medical test by the certificate surgeon or MBBS doctor.
  • The person medically fit to work at height shall be given safe work training and shall have undergone the physical test.
  • Medically and physically fit persons shall be issued height pass certificate and a registration, the number shall be assigned on the form and the same recorded in the light pass register.
  • The pass will be valid for one year from the date of issue.
  • In case the worker wanted to continue the work at the height beyond this period he has to obtain a fresh height pass certificate.


Hand tools used by the workman in work at height shall be secured with a body of the user (Toll bass).
